I was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta by a loving family. I constantly was reminded from a young age that I could grow up to be whatever I wanted to be. This statement iterated to me countless times inspired me to aspire to be an educator. I desire to be able to provide students with this same possibility by encouraging them to develop into the learners they desire to be. With that in mind, I have always visualized myself as being a lifelong educator. I was told many times throughout school (kindergarten to the present day) that I assume the role of a teacher. Within my work ethic, communication skills, desire to help others, positive attitude, passion for subject matter, and love of literature I believe that I will make an outstanding future educator.
A few of my passions consist of traveling, spending time with family, volunteering, and enjoying the outdoors. All of these passions I possess make me the person I am today, creating an admirable future educator.
I treasure my family because of what my family has taught me. I have been educated on simple, but yet important aspects of life such as responsibility, determination, kindness, leadership, flexibility, and personality. I am eternally grateful for these life lessons I have been taught. As a future educator because of my experiences with family, I will be able to develop a respectful and nurturing relationship with each of my students. I intend to design a learning environment that entails patience, kindness, and flexibility. In turn, this will allow me to apply dedication and guidance toward the education of each student I encounter.
Travel has taught me a lot. I have learned about diverse cultures, what my comfort zones are, patience, appreciation, and to try new things. My experience with diverse cultures around the world has driven me to become accepting and willing to learn about every culture in a respectful way. This is an excellent attribute to bring into the classroom by displaying these actions of respect, kindness, and understanding toward diverse students. My travels have also brought me to become flexible. I have discovered sometimes a schedule does not go as planned, and that is okay. In situations similar to the classroom setting, I can apply patience and appreciation promoting flexibility. As a future educator, I will be able to apply quick-thinking skills and willingness to try new ideas to make the "plan" work better because of my experiences with traveling.
My passion for the outdoors has assisted me in gaining the life skills of observation, awareness, and quick decision making. I have discovered that these life skills are applied in the classroom environment each day as a student, and a student-teacher. During my adventures among the outdoors throughout the world, I have uncovered the skill of observation in the little and big things. I believe observation will help me as a future educator by granting me with skills to utilize towards assessment. The discovery of self-awareness when outdoors will support me in developing a greater understanding of students' needs so I can apply proper differentiation. Linking my passion for nature with the classroom setting, I can provide an effective environment for all students thus, advancing active learning. I hope to have the chance to teach others the importance of these life skills I have discovered.
I consider volunteering an important aspect of my life. When I have free time and there are opportunities available, I enjoy volunteering for different organizations. This requires me to take on a leadership role. As a teacher leadership is key within the classroom. Because of volunteering, I can bring this skill of leadership into the classroom setting. Volunteering has helped me to connect with the community thus, enriching society. Through volunteering, I am able to connect with the current community to understand what future society needs.
